What Data We Collect and Why
Account Information
When you register, we collect your name, email address, and optional profile details (avatar, cover photo, bio). This data lets you participate in the community and helps neighbours recognise each other.
Community Activity
Posts, comments, messages, and other content you share through BuddyPress are stored to power the community feed and notifications.
Classified Listings
If you post a classified ad, we store the listing details (title, description, price, photos, and location) so other members can find your listing.
Trust Points (myCred)
We track community engagement points (“trust points”) to reward helpful participation. Points are calculated from your activity and displayed on your profile.
Third-Party Login
If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email, and profile picture from Google. We do not access your Google contacts, files, or any other data.
Cookies
We use essential cookies to keep you logged in and remember your preferences. Our caching system (Autoptimize, Redis) may set performance cookies. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies.
Analytics
We may collect anonymous usage statistics to improve the site. No personally identifiable information is shared with analytics providers.
How We Protect Your Data
Your data is stored on secured servers. Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text. We use HTTPS encryption for all connections. Access to user data is limited to site administrators.
Who We Share Your Data With
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information. Data may be shared with:
- Google — only if you use Google sign-in (authentication only)
- Email service — to deliver notifications and the weekly digest (you can unsubscribe)
- Law enforcement — only if required by law
How Long We Keep Your Data
Account data is retained while your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal data will be removed within 30 days. Community posts may be anonymised rather than deleted to preserve conversation context.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your personal data (visit your profile settings)
- Correct inaccurate data (edit your profile anytime)
- Delete your account (contact an administrator)
- Export your data (use the WordPress data export tool under your profile)
- Object to processing of your data
